Human Resource Development - Essay ExampleAs a HR Manager, our accompany CEO has verbalized a similar viewpoint, contending that HRD is unnecessary during the financial crisis and that the HRD budget should be the first to go in case of personify reduction. This is informed by previous actions taken after financial crises, during which this strategy worked. However, the present crisis is starkly different from the earlier ones as it has spread very fast globally and brought world economies close to collapse. This frame of action, therefore, may not be as effective as it was earlier. Markets affirm been steadily decreasing with sales also shrinking therefore, different solutions be necessitate at company, national, and international level (Caprio, 2012 p54). The current crisis has been compared to the Great Depression, with the remedies used then being implemented by various companies to date (Jungmann et al, 2011 p33). However, serious and vital changes rent happened since t hen. The most important difference is the change in the national economy structures. Compared to the Great Depression era, the service sector has grown in significance with the industrial and agricultural sectors decreasing. This has meant that there has been an extensive strengthening in an area where connection to the material processes has been secondary, even as employment factors have remained significant (Fuchita et al, 2010 p65). Productive upper-case letter is to be found embedded into the employees and their work. This paper will seek to show that corporate methodology for dealing with the current crisis cannot follow earlier patterns by cutting funding to Human Resource Development L&D. This is informed partly by the character of the present crisis. This is especially factual for a company where intangible assets, have a vital role to play and where production is linked to intimacy instead of tangible assets. The Role of Learning and Development in Times of crisis The ma nagement of crisis and their solutions appears time to time in the media. This usually involves reduction of working time for employees, lay-offs or cuts to Human Resource Development. In most cases, the constitutions have no choice with regards to avoiding insolvency or bankruptcy. Cutting funding to Human Resource Development, however, offers short-term solutions while leading to long-term problems (Lazear & Michael, 2009 p44). One assumption made regarding knowledge management is that human capital and information play a more significant role in the input process. A significant part of the organizations value lies with human capital, i.e. the knowledge in its employees possession, which is a crucial factors as far as improved corporate performance and competitiveness are concerned (Lazear, 1998 p10). Faced by a crisis, however, an organization may begin paying inadequate attention to the retention of knowledge that is lay-offs as well as the improvement of knowledge for its empl oyees. Most companies will utilize a lawnmower principle with an aim to reduce costs by trying to economize on their highest components of cost wages and Human Resource Development (Buckley & Jim, 2009 p22). This strategy, however, is limited in its effectiveness. Cutting costs involves the sacrifice of resources in order to increase profit, with whoever is tasked to examine resource example attempting to cut costs by all means possible. It opened him out to the possibilities that lay outside of the boundaries that one keeps for oneself. The murderous attempt on Maria was nothing but the logical conclusion of this cerebration process. When one chooses to rationalize to ones own self actions which are completely wrong, there is a whole paradigm shift in our own morality which leads to a vicious cycle resulting in even more grievous actions.Maria Korp was a tragic victim of her husbands financial aspirations and emotional hunger. No one deserves to be killed, but I cannot help thinking that somewhere a certain responsibility for her own undoing lays on her. Till she came along Joe Korp was a married man with a family. Wasnt it she who opened him up to the possibility of unfaithfulness Was there not insensitivity not just to the unfortunate Leonie but also to her children Maria Korp thought nothing of permanently destabilising the lives of three other people for her own sake. Plea-bargaining Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Plea-bargaining - Essay ExampleThe advantage of this system is that there is no need for a trial, a right that the suspect waives losing the chance for acquittal. However, the defendant escapes with a lesser find fault than would have been the case had trial been done. The state saves on the cost of conducting a trial (Grossman & Katz, 1983). For the system to be operational, there argon issues that are pre-negotiated including the reduction of charges, recommendations regarding the excoriate itself or the guarantee that the prosecution would not oppose a request for probation. The process of plea-bargaining after the offensive is committed and the accused person is arrested. The accused pleads guilty in exchange of an agreed sentence recommended by the judge. There are three types of pleas bargains. These are charge bargaining, count bargaining and sentence bargaining. The first type of bargain is where the defendant agrees to plead to a charge that is lesser than the one he is c harged with. The siemens is where the defendant will have the number of charges that he faces reduced in number and the third is where the defendant simply pleads guilty with prior knowledge of what the sentence will be. The process of plea bargaining is a private matter where only the accused, the defendant counsel, the prosecutor and in some cases the judge may be in attendance. The offer of plea bargain is used to locate stolen goods, to help arrest other culprits or to know the location of a kidnapped victim or a killed individual. A plea bargain does not undermine the system of law. Although the facts indicate that the practice usually leads to reduced sentences to guilty parties with let on the process of trial, there are benefits that aid in offsetting the negative sen cartridge clipnts expressed in relation to the practice. There are many advantages to plea bargaining as there are disadvantages. Considering the achievement rates of plea bargaining compared to that of trial s, the practice inadvertently aids in the reduction of criminals on the streets as well as guarantee speedy dispensation of arbiter (Goldstein, 1997). In exchange, the prosecution gets information that might be valuable to the conviction of more serious crimes or may get information that might be the missing link towards the conclusion of a case in a court or an investigation. There are instances where plea bargaining has been attended as lacking. The prisoner?s dilemma scenario plays out during plea bargains (Schulhofer, 1992). Consider two people who have been accused. The prosecution will attempt to unearth the facts of the case by offering a plea bargain to one party so that he can testify against the other party. Regardless of whether both parties are guilty or not, the person who confesses will give false information incriminating even those who may not be guilty in an attempt to get himself out of the larger sentence. Another scenario is when the defendant cannot raise bai l. much(prenominal) a defendant will plead guilty to the charges leveled against him regardless of whether he is guilty or not. Such a person considers the length of time that trials usually take and chooses to plead to a plea bargain that might present a lesser time than that which he would have faced awaiting trial. Some critics argue that plea bargaining does not always result in saving on costs (Kipnis, 1979). They consider that a prosecutor who has a remote chance of acquire a conviction may enter a plea bargain with the aim of getting reduced time for the defendant. If such a defendant accepts the deal, he will increase the cost to the state as he will be catered for in a jail. On the contrary, if the trial had dragged on until the end, the defendant would have been acquitted and that would have carried no extra cost to the state. There are

Geography in the middle east - Essay Exampleupport that Christian Zionists and Jews received from such powers as the United States shows the general aim of their empowerment and motivation towards the liberation. The United States, for example, recognized rights of Soviet Jews to their traditional beliefs and elevated Zionists and Jews to political posts (Class Notes, n.d., Slide 97). Statements that key leaders made, in relation to the events also identifies the need for liberation as reason for the unity and violence as the approach to the liberty. While Soviet restrained Jews movements, Sharansky acknowledged that the Jews private road was significant to the fall of the Soviet (Class Notes, Slide 100). The key indicator of the role of violence in the liberation is the role of the United States in empowering Al nucleotide for violent attacks on the Soviet and Brzezinski and Clinton admits to the Statess role in creation of Al Qaeda (Class Notes, Slide 98, 99). Inclusion in the Classroom Essay Example for Free

Inclusion in the Classroom EssayGenerally, when people describe the term inclusion they might use speech communication like accepted, welcomed, valued, and togetherness. With word inclusion having the ability to generate these types of positive emotions, why wouldnt one want to incorporate full-inclusion into the single outroom? Its hard to see the say-so pitfalls when looking at the developmental returns from including students with more severe disabilities into the schoolroom, yet there are still concerns regarding inclusion. Parents of children with disabilities, parent of children without disabilities, and even general breeding teachers have flaccid their opinion on why full-inclusion may not be the best solution for all disability students. Weather its the case of not being competent to accommodate the student with the necessary amount of movement breaks throughout the day, or having the student feeling constant pressure to keep up with the rest of the class (Falco ne, K. 2012). There is also the concern that keeping disability students away from a limitedized educational setting is simply depriving them of an appropriate education, and that proper special education is individualized (Fuchs Fuchs, 1995). Parents with dis fittingd children have even challenged the idea of Full-inclusion by saying that their child may be looked or treated differently, resulting in self-esteem issues and/or bullying.Like I stated before, including an individual is usually looked at as good thing. So when schools, and parents evaluate incorporating full-inclusion into the classroom, they usually get a laundry key ways it could benefit not only the child with the disability but everyone in the classroom. Many believe that including students with disabilities in both academic and non academic settings earth-closet strengthen them accessiblely and strengthen the way the interact with non-disabled peers. This also brings up the argument that non-disabled students can deeply benefit from interacting with their peers of disabilities (Wehmeyer, 2003). Inclusion can build effort and understanding within a classroom, and at a young age envision students how to be accepting of all people. Also including children with disabilities in a Gen. Ed classroom is likely to have little academic impact on the other students, but could even enhance the learning environment by adding more teachers in the classroom for extra help. The community can also benefit from inclusion. With an increase in peer fundamental interaction and social experience, students with disabilities will be able to gain the skills necessary to contribute to their community once their educational career is over.Personally, I believe not only children with server disabilities can greatly benefit from being included in the classroom, but everyone involved in the classroom can benefit from Inclusion. Theres a lot to be said for the schools pushing interaction between disability students and non disabled students. It gives the opportunity for children to grow morally, and develop a greater understanding of acceptance. We saw the affect Peter had on his classmates, and the tremendous social growth they gained over the coarse of the course of study. There are students like Peter in classrooms all around the country, that can offer a deeper understanding of life. It goes to show just because you might be different doesnt mean you dont belong. I think its truly primary(prenominal) to incorporate inclusion into the classroom and that positives out weigh the negatives. With that said, I also believe that there are somethings the Gen Ed classroom cant accommodate for. Many students with disabilities rely on having that learning center or special ed classroom where they can go and get fully accommodated and proper one-on-on attention is absolutely crucial. Spending time with special ed instructors, with individualized lessons can be a lot more affective than keeping up wit h the pace of the Gen ed curriculum. My opinion from the beginning of the year hasnt really changed. Coming into this class I knew that having students with disabilities incorporated with the day-to-day class time was important. Yet at the same time I knew how important the special education classes are and how helpful they can be for the academic progress of these students. My case study really proved that. My student needed that organise to go when he felt lost or over whelmed. Full-inclusion would have been too much for him.

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula Essay Example for Free

Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula EssayStability in the Arabian Peninsula region has been a awe for the United States for some time now. AQAP poses a direct threat against the U.S. and U.S. interests of Stability and Security in the Arabian Peninsula. This instability and threat is why I go through chosen the AQAP as the FTO to research making the next attack. The AQAP comes from the merging of the al Qaeda cells from Yemen and in Saudi Arabia. There ar approximately iodine two hundred members, with thousands of supporters. The merger took place in January 2009, due to the success of the Saudi Arabian government in destroying al Qaedas root in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. AQAP is a subsidiary of the al Qaeda, whose center of gravity is in Pakistan and Afghanistan, but works independently of its parent organization. Since formation occurred, they are responsible for a number of attacks on the West and are considered responsible touch offies of the UPS and FEDEX cargo bombi ng attempts (Kurczy, 2010).They were deemed a terrorist organization on December 14, 2009, by U.S. writing table of State Hillary Clinton. (Gerstein, 2010). Prior to the formation of AQAP, al Qaeda claimed responsibility for numerous attacks in Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Those attacks include the 1993 attack on World Trade Center, 1998 suicide bombings of Embassies, the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole, and the 2008 car bombing outside the U.S. Embassy in Sana killing 19 people including 6 of the terrorists (Poland, 2005 ). AQAP has claimed to plan on sharpening oil facilities, tourists, and certificate forces in the future. It is believed though that AQAP provided spiritual guidance by U.S. Citizen Anwar al Awlaki to U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, who was the gunman behind the 2009 Ft. Hood killings and the December 2009 attempt to down a passenger airline to Detroit. liable parties to these terroristic events are said to be that of the top five key leaders of AQAP. These men include are in order of their rank from the top blank space of leaders to the last. 1. Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri, aka the bomb maker. He is believed to be the creator of the bombs intercepted in October last year on cargo planes. 2. Anwar al-Awlaki, aka the chief ideologue. He is suspected of being part of three unsuccessful terrorist attacks to include the Fort Hood Shootings (Bryant, C., Kasinof, L., 2010), bombing attempt on airliner jet on Christmas, and the Times Square bombing on whitethorn 2. 3. Said Ali al-Shihri, deputy chief of AQAP. He is suspected of participation inSeptember 2008 US Embassy attack and the kidnapping of nine missionaries in June 2009 according to obscure News. 4. Qasim al-Raymi, military commander. He followed Osama bin Ladens lead on media releases building an ever- more than sophisticated propaganda arm for al Qaeda in Arabian Peninsula (Kurczy, 2010).5. Nasir al Wuhayshi, head of AQAP. Known as the personal secretary of Osama bin Laden (Kurczy, 2010). Most of AQAP is made up of fighters that returned from Afghanistan during the Russian invasion and fighters that pay back been serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. They lure bracing recruits who are sympathetic to al Qaeda and have displeasure towards the U.S. and western nations. The recruiting pool is vast in the region with fighters fleeing Iraq and Afghanistan and relocating to Yemen and Somalia. Both countries have weak central governments that are conducive for lawlessness in the region and have vast ungoverned territory. Government cooperation with American counter-terrorism efforts has historically been spotty and portions of both populations are hostile to the United States. (Kerry, 2010) AQAP aims to overthrow the Yemeni government for its support to the U.S. and its offensive operations against al Qaeda. The group also emphasizes its global ambitions and desire to target western interests within the region. Additionally, AQAP has give tongue to it will focus on cutting supply l ines of western nations supporting Israel and looks to expand its influence throughout the region (Boucek, 2010). The animosity against the western nations continues to grow, as does the technology and ideas for new weapons. The newest information is that a poisoned perfume plot against religious and government officials was prevented due to arrest of 149 al Qaeda suspects. This is moreover an example of the creativity AQAP has come up with. Last summer the countrys Deputy Interior Minister had been attempted to be assassinated by a bomber with the weapon in his anus (Rawnsley, 2010). These weapons are just the newest form used by AQAP. Yemen has emerged as a major staging base for al Qaeda and other likeminded groups for attacking American targets within Yemen as good as to reach targets outside of Yemen including the United States.U.S. officials have warned that al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula was a growing threat even before the failed 2009, Christmas Day airline bombing atte mpt (Kerry, 2010). In February 2009, Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair stated that, Yemen is reemerging as a jihadist battleground and potential regional base of operations for Al Qaedato plan internal and external attacks, train terrorists, and facilitate the doing of operatives. (Rollins, 2010). The threat coming from AQAP is greater than the threat coming from al Qaedas central leadership located in Pakistan. AQAP is increasingly a more pressing concern for U.S. national security department. AQAP has relative freedom of movement in the Arabian Peninsula and region which allows for its ability to increase its ranks through recruitment as well as its ability to train new recruits.Additionally, AQAP has also shown its ability to influence other like-minded individuals to conduct attacks to our homeland with little to no warning. AQAP has proven it has the means and capability to attempt to conduct attacks globally although it has yet to be successful. It is only a ma tter of time before they possess the ability and trained personnel that are able to conduct something equal to or greater than the attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001. AQAP poses a direct threat to the U.S. and U.S. interest of stability and security in the Arabian Peninsula. AQAP is capable of every threat that has been uttered against the US and western countries. The US as well as the other western territories that are considered allies against AQAP, can end or at least moderate the terroristic threat by interdicting terrorists, disrupt their planning, restrict their travel, reduce the flow of financial (EO 13224 sign-language(a) 9/23/01) and material support to terrorist groups, and enable partner governments to assert control over weakly governed territory where terrorists find sanctuary (US discussion section of State, 2005). The Antiterrorism aid program is a well used deterrent against FTOs such as AQAP. The AQAP became a bigger threat than al Qaeda, a nd the instability and security issues within the Arabian Peninsula are threats we must contend with. With the knowledge and training gained since the imperative attacks on American soil in 2001, we can deter and stick around these terrorists and protect our homeland and allies. The ideologies and animosity against the US and other western nations are targeted towards the recruiting of others who sympathize with al Qaeda. Preemptive and retaliatory methods are other forces to use to block the AQAPs threats and/or attacks. It is also noted in the Country Reports that by Americans helping partner nations in the quest for improving their abilities to recover and prevent terrorist activities this will clearly enhance the overall security of all nations (US Department of State, 2005).ReferencesBoucek, Christopher (2010). Burning the identification cards Essay Example for Free

Burning the identification cards EssayThe leadership style sh aver in the 1982 film Gandhi is based not on force or intimidation, only if on a more(prenominal) subtle, inspirational, and principled nestle. Where many leaders rely on charm or fear and vex only their own usefulness in mind, Gandhi led by setting a clear example and aiming to teach his followers and subordinates, setting a solid example and using his powers of judgment to keep his movement morally exemplary, nonviolent, and ultimately successful.Throughout the film, Gandhi follows this approach consistently. For example, at his first public act of civil disobedience (burning the identification cards that southeast Africa forced Indians to carry), he acts to inspire others to follow his example, though clearly he faces the perils of police brutality and arrest. At a large meeting shortly thereafter, he uses reason and principle to reach his audience, some of whom vow to use violence against South African poli ce for violating their rights. He does not lose show of his own commitment to nonviolence and appeals to their sense of superior morality by defying injustice but refusing to answer violence with violence, Gandhi illustrates for the audience both the methods and the intended effects. Later, after he returns to India and becomes involved with the growing home rule and nationalist movements, he sets himself apart from more politically ambitious leaders ( wish well Nehru and Jinnah) by living and dressing like Indias many poor peasants and, again, adhering rigidly to his nonviolent civil disobedience. He does not behave deviously, compromise himself, use people, or contradict his goals instead, he leads not for his own glory, but for the much greater benefit of India itself. In doing so, Gandhi does not issue orders but for sure commands his followers respect. In my own experiences, I have often responded best to leaders who lead not by using and intimidating their subordinates, but by consistently following their own principles, clearly transferral why certain things must be done, and never losing sight of the bigger goals.Indeed, this inspires confidence because such leaders do not behave hypocritically or immorally they do not let ego get in the way of accomplishing the chief task and assume the same risks their followers face, thus grade themselves to their goals without being misled by their own personal ambition or benefit. This relates well to one of my favorite employers, who led by setting examples, instructing, and persuading rather than bullying. While we were certainly not engaged in any epic struggles, she led in a similarly non-commanding manner, without ulterior motives or excess self-interest.She functioned more as a mentor, instructing rather than micro-managing and placing the greater purpose (our tasks and projects at hand) above her own desire for power or authority. Instead of demeaning her subordinates, she related to us directly, giving u s credit for our intelligence and feelings and appealing to our sense of right and wrong to get points across. In doing so, she let us focus on our work without creating resentment or undermining us (or the company), and she knew that employees who feel respected are often more productive. Also, she did not separate herself very rigidly from her subordinates while she did not present herself as our friend, she was even so friendly, approachable, and patient. She also assumed some degree of risk by defending her employees, rather than feigning support and then denying it when risks appeared. By treating us as capable, good individuals, rather than devices for her own advancement, and she did not behave with the hypocrisy often seen in employers whose do as I say, not as I do approach is often counterproductive.Like Gandhi, she was often conciliatory rather than directly commanding, which made us feel more at ease and thus open to her commands (which appeared more like friendly reque sts). In general, I find that effective leaders share Gandhis sense of perspective they do not lose sight of the goals they wish to achieve, and as leaders they do not place themselves ahead of what they want to achieve. Threats To Coral Reefs Environmental Sciences Essay

Threats To Coral Reefs Environmental Sciences EssayCoral reefs deal with many threats, from both disposition and man. Coral reefs have become the home for over twenty five percent of the ocean life in the ocean and theyre the largest living structures on worldly concern (Coral Reefs and CO2). Also, reefs provide food for about 500 million people around the world (Connor). Coral reefs require balanced water chemistry for growth as well as balanced trip, temperature, and nutrient levels. Any changes to these digest affect the survival of the red coral and potentially kill them (Sandhyarani). Ten percent of the tropical reefs in the world have already been lost and the reefs that remain show signs of deterioration and possible loss (Coral Reefs and CO2). Twenty percent of the worlds reefs have been destroyed and show no immediate prospects of recovery, Clive Wilkinson, World Wildlife Fund. The two main threats that reefs deal with come from humans (anthropogenic) and natural event s.Consequently, global heating system may now have the most crushing affect on coral reefs from humans. Global warming rump be caused by the release of CO2 into the atmosphere as a result of the importunate of fossil fuels (Coral Reefs in Danger). An increase in ocean temperature is a direct affect of global warming and extremely chancy to corals and the organisms that call the coral home. The warming can cause coral bleaching, when coral polyps drop the algae that live on them leaving behind the bright gaberdine color of the corals skeleton (Thompson). This algae provides the coral with eighty percent of its energy, making the algae critical to the corals existence (Threats). Coral life depends on algae, but too much can in any case have a negative effect. Pollution has become one of the leading human threats to coral, resulting from runoff, sewage, oils, chemicals, fertilizers, and radioactive wastes getting into the ocean (Kaku). These chemicals can increase the nutrient levels in the ocean waters and cause algae blooms and growth of other marine organisms that can compete with coral for space. Pollution can also lead to light deprivation and will ultimately starve a coral, which depends upon its symbiotic algae to produce food photosynthetically (NOAA CoRIS). Pollution can be linked to coral diseases as well due to the poor water quality that pollution produces. If an oil spill occurs coral spawning, the oil can destroy the egg and sperm of the coral polyp as it floats near the surface before it can ever fertilize and settle (NOAA). Destructive fishing methods are another human link threat to coral reefs. Blast fishing, the most destructive to reefs, kills not only the objective fish but also reef animals and the reefs themselves (Thompson). Cyanide fishing, which involves the release of nitrile into the ocean to stun fish, can kill the coral polyps and corrupt the entire reef (NOAA). Coral mining can also be extremely ravage for corals, the cor al is mainly used for construction purposes and can be obtained fifty percent cheaper than rock from a quarry (NOAA).Furthermore, natural threats are also dangerous the coral reefs. Coral diseases are the most common natural threat. Diseases can be caused by humans but they mainly derive from natural biological stresses such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses. They can also occur as a result of non-biological stresses such as increased sea surface temperature or ultraviolet illumination radiation (NOAA). Nevertheless, they have the same impact no matter the cause and the main diseases include black band disease, white band disease, white plague, and white pox. Slowly over time, these progress to expand across the coral eating away at the corals tissue and leaving behind its white skeleton unprotected (NOAA). The waves that result from hurricanes and cyclones can break apart branches of coral and coral heads, scattering the fragments and leaving no chance for the coral to recover (McGin ley). Tidal emersions, which leave corals unresolved for long periods of time during low tide, can cause the coral to overheat and dry out the essential coral tissues (NOAA). Predation from fish, marine worms, barnacles, crabs, snails, and starfish can destroy reefs in some cases by eating the soft tissues of coral polyps (NOAA). Humans remain the largest threat to coral survival but natural events can still be devastative.Pollution, overfishing, and overuse have put many of our unique reefs at risk. Their disappearance would destroy the habitat of countless species. It would unravel the web of marine life that holds the potential for new chemicals, new medicines, unlocking new mysteries. It would have a devastating effect on the coastal communities from Cairns to Key West, Florida communities whose livelihood depends upon the reefs.President Bill Clinton
